Episode 178 – Thanksgiving

Happy Last-Week-Of-November, everyone!  I have some good news and possibly not-so-good news. The not-so-good: there’s no new MAT Feature tonight. But we have a good reason, and it leads us to our good news — we have a full show with the Atlanta Radio Theatre Company tonight, as they share with us some stories that fit into our last week of focus on family and remembrance.  Admittedly, those of you in the U.S. will note that this episode aired the day (or two) after Thanksgiving – but between Black Friday madness and the horrors that have come to light in the news this month, it only seemed fitting that we take the extra time and sitRead More →

Episode 177 – Jazz Shoes and Gumshoes

We’re on week three of our November episodes!  If you’ve missed it recently, we’re waiting until December for all of the winter holiday celebrations and have been focusing on stories with themes of rememberance and family this month. Tonight continues on that track, by bringing you the second half of “In the Embers” by Great Northern Audio Theatre.  When we last left our story, archaeologist Digger Moran had just received the alarming news that access to his dig site was about to be plowed down by local developers, just as he’s begun to scratch the surface of the mystery behind lost 1920s jazz singer Kit Jeffers.  AtRead More →

Episode 176 – Embers of a Music Box

Audio drama, get your audio drama!  This month we’ve decided to wait on the winter holiday hullabaloo, and instead  focus on  stories involving family and remembrance in our lead-up to Thanksgiving. This week and next we have a story from Great Northern Audio Theatre, entitled “In the Embers” which premiered at the HEAR Now Festival in Kansas City earlier this year.  With this story’s release, Great Northern Audio is excited to announce that their story has been picked up by Blackstone Audio, and is available on their website starting December 8th.  That includes a making-of documentary created especially for the release of “In the Embers”. Be sure to check theRead More →

Episode 175 – Never Again War

Welcome back, audio drama fans!  Halloween has passed and October has come and gone – and for many people, that means all kinds of December holiday celebrations are on the horizon.  But there’s still plenty to celebrate in November – in the U.S., the most familiar ones are Veteran’s Day and Thanksgiving.  With that in mind, we decided to celebrate these holidays before all of the Winter-Wonderland-craziness, by bringing you stories with elements of family and remembrance.  This week we have the latest story from Sue Media Productions and Midsummer Sound Company, entitled “Never Again War: The Sacrifice of Käthe Kollwitz” by Helen Engelhardt.  As oneRead More →

Episode 174 – Ghosts, Vampires and Bears; Oh My!

Welcome, folks!  We’re counting down the weeks of our spooky shows!  Tonight we have a trio of stories for you, with some special shorts and a long lighthouse mystery.  We are happy to share with you a new, local Columbus audio production, “The Zombie Teddy Bear“, based off of the children’s book by David Simone – it may sound scary, but it’s actually quite charming.  Following that is a joint production from Final Rune Productions and Biddeford High School in Maine, entitled “Vampire in the Vernal Pool” – part of a project to combine theatre art as outdoors-experimental learning. And of course, we have the secondRead More →

Episode 172 – In Your Mind and Outside the Living

Welcome back!  We’re down to Week 2 of our spooktacular month of October, and this show we have a horror-ful collection of audio goodies to treat you with.  Tonight we welcome back to the show Yap Audio Productions and Campfire Radio Theater – it’s been a while since they were last here, and both groups have been very busy! Listeners of MAT were first introduced to Yap Audio Productions with Season One of their “Aftermath” series, a postapocalyptic story of survival.  They have since released a Season Two as well, in addition to several short, stand-alone pieces and started a podcast.  Their show, the Audio DramaRead More →

Episode 171 – Lovin’ the Lovecraft

Welcome back!  It’s October, and you know what that means – we’re kicking off a full month of spooky tales, in preparation for Halloween.   But not everything is filled with horror; some of the tales we have for you will have tastes of the comedic and adventure to round out our listening pallets.  This evening we decided to start things off with one of the masters of the supernatural, H.P. Lovecraft.  Our friends at Atlanta Radio Theatre Company have comprised a collection of stories based on the writer’s tales, some to unnerve – and some to make you chuckle.  ARTC  has a new release of this collection on their website entitled,”TheRead More →

Episode 170 – Phantom Melodies

It’s an uncovered, long-lost episode! At the time of this posting, this show had disappeared from our archives since it’s original airing 9 months ago.  Fortunately, as we continue to improve our upkeep of our website, we managed to uncover this show and can post it now for your listening pleasure.  It it, we had a full hour feature of works from 19 Nocturne Boulevard.  We continued with our interest in audio dramas of the wild west with 19 Nocturne’s ‘The Deadeye Kid‘ series – in this show, we hear Episode 4, “Haunting Melody“.  After that, it’s a quaint, cheeky short story penned by H. H.Read More →

Episode 169 – We’ve Gone Western!

Howdy folks!  You might find something a little different about our show tonight.  After getting a taste of some Westerns, we decided to bring around a few of them for September!  What caught our eye this week is the “Deadeye Kid” series from 19 Nocturne Boulevard.  Lemuel Roberts, once the infamous ‘Deadeye Kid’, travels the west as he tries to make up for his checkered past. In tonight’s story, Lem and his sidekick Fanshaw roll into a little town, just in time to stop an unjust hanging and help the town find out who actually deserves punishment.  It’s entitled “The Deadeye Kid : A Hanging At Pickens Rock“,Read More →

Episode 168 – Voyage to the Bloody Tower

Sad but true, folks – tonight is our last show of HEAR Now Festival features from way back in June.   But what great shows to end on!  This episode, we kick things off with two stories from The Truth Podcast, produced by Jonathan Mitchell. We had one or two selections on our show from “The Truth” years ago, and to hear the podcast at the HEAR Now Festival was really exciting. The two stories featured at the festival were “Voyager Found” and “Sylvia’s Blood“. Both of them won recognitions at the Mark Time Awards, including Science Fiction Finalist, the Gold Award for Horror, and Best EnsembleRead More →
