Episode 319 – Not So Ordinary Railway

Episode 319 – Not So Ordinary Railway

Welcome back! It’s another show of new stories as we welcome two new friends to the show, with a short SCIENCE lesson in between. Are you prepared to explore the ghostly train station of the Necropolis Railway? How about questing with a new group of friend on a not-so Ordinary Epic? It’s time for some adventure with weird and wonderful things!

First things first – we’re going underground to find out more about this mysterious Underground of London in Hillevi Gustafson’s “London Necropolis Railway”. The story is inspired by the actual Necropolis Railway of the 1800s, which transported dead bodies out of London for burial at a new, large cemetery outside the city limits. Considered to be the most haunted railway in England, Hillevi was immediately pulled in by this evocative place. This led to her developing a version of the railway where the workers are ghouls and their mission is to transport the souls of the dead out of London to keep the city from being overrun by ghosts. With episodes roughly 10 minutes in length, we’re lucky enough to bring you the full first season of this fantastical podcast! This show it’s Episodes 1-3, with the rest to follow next week.

After that, what do underground tunnels and epic quests have in common? Why, the (highly unlikely) chance of coming across some Crocodiles, of course! Okay, maybe it’s a stretch, but just in case you need to escape one in either situation, the Amazing Science Emporium has you covered.

Which brings us to an adventure of the imagination…or rather, the imaginations of Athena, Daniel, Dominic, Emo and Marcus – all players of shared story of their own design. The Ordinary Epic is a fantasy audio drama, sound designed and scored by industry professionals, about five friends and the challenges they face together – both at and beyond the gaming table. We’ve been looking for an RPG-game related audio drama story that’s more than a listen to someone’s gameplay, and this tale from Crose to Home Productions does not disappoint! With relatable characters, a sweeping story and amusing side comments, it’s a wonderful story that combines the real with fantasy with an elaborate soundscape to boot.

What are you waiting for? Get to listening!
