We continue taking our gaze inside: to audio dramas produced right here by the many minions of Midnight Audio Theatre. All of whom are Cathy Rinella*, your show host AND supreme sound designer, audio engineer, writer, director…well, you get the idea. As she reads each entry from our annual scriptwriting competition, she hears how the characters and action will play to the ear, then holds tight to the demanding detail that her mind’s ear creates.
That quality shows.
You’ll hear it for yourself in all our offerings in this episode. It’s a trilogy of tales penned by three-time competition champ Evan Waters, beginning with “Bonds of Earth.” This tale of straight-ahead sci-fi centers on the crashed wreckage of a gravitational experiment gone wrong. Will it be the doom of humanity, or the birth of a new race of superhumans? More importantly, might those two options be equally dismal for we regular folks?
Then Evan moves us from the heavy ramifications of speculative fiction to some light-hearted space opera thanks to his ever-popular daring heroine of the cosmos, Tara Flame. She’s front-and-center in two awesome adventures: a chase across the stars in “Tara Flame on Patrol,” then a search to solve the mystery of a not-so-deserted space station in “Tara Flame and the Sleeping City.”
A little mystery, a little laughter: that’s the stellar spirit of this visit to Midnight Audio Theatre!
