Midnight Audio Theatre’s features festival is roughly midstride as we present you with a world premiere. Every year, we’re amazed at the incredible quality and creativity of the works submitted in our annual scriptwriting competition. Last year (2019) was no exception.
You’re about to hear “Wingbeats” by K.S.Dearsley. Dearsley is an accomplished writer in multiple media – including plays, books, short fiction and poetry. A Doctor Who fan, she loves to create speculative fiction.
In “Wingbeats,” young Katya is sent to live with her aunt in a foreign country after weather ruins the crops in her impoverished farming village. Her aunt, though, is not the benefactor she pretended to be. Katya becomes a functional slave in this new world, with a future as bleak as her homeland’s…until a particular butterfly wafts into her life.
Then we wean ourselves from our long run of noir mysteries with one final (for now) look into the files of Black Jack Justice from Decoder Ring Theatre. This time, Trixie Dixon decides to take a little time off. But that doesn’t mean the action in Trixie’s life is willing to take a break, too. You’ll find out why in episode 54 – “The Empty Desk.”
Finally, we check in on a favorite Columbus-based radio-play troupe, It’s All Been Done Radio Hour. Why are they one of the tops on our list? The second episode of their “Morning Show” series is all the example you need. Have fun!
