Our special theme continues: this is installment #3 presenting stories with a Midwest feel – incorporating slice-of-life tales alongside weird and wonderful discoveries. Last episode, we heard all of that and more with two series – The Cryptonaturalist, produced in our home region of Central Ohio, and Unwell, which is produced in Chicago but takes place in Mt. Absalom, Ohio. This episode, we return to that fictional small town where Lillian Harper has begun to take up residence, juggling her old ways of life with all the strange goings-on in two more chapters of Unwell – “The Pageant” and “Rifled.”
Unwell is the latest series from Hartlife NFP. Long time listeners and fans of post-apocalyptic sci fi will recognize the name as the creative hive mind behind Our Fair City. Hartlife NFP has been producing audio drama stories since 2011, and Unwell was launched in 2019 with an impressive lineup of cast and crew. They’re a veritable Who’s Who of the modern audio fiction genre. The pandemic hasn’t slowed them down a bit, as Unwell will return for Season 3 soon (a new episode releasing roughly every two weeks beginning in February 2021).
Yes, we’re gushing about Unwell. It’s an audio aficionado’s dream: everything about this series is layered with attention to detail – creating engrossing character conversations, realistic sound design, and a story that sucks you in before you realize it.
