Is the DeLorean gone? Can we start the show now?
We know our intro clip isn’t the normal one – but since our parent station (WCBE 90.5) had their fall fund drive in-between the normal MAT airing days, we decided to add a little extra something of our own, post-drive. If you love audio drama and want to encourage having it on the radio, consider supporting WCBE 90.5 FM Columbus with a donation!
Now, how about some new audio drama stories? We’ve survived our night in the woods last week with Lake Clarity, now it’s time to go both ways – into the city with BRASS, and to an out-of-the-way house-on-the-hill with Mabel.
Written and directed by John Longenbaugh, and produced by Battlefield Productions, “BRASS” is the tale of an adventurous family living a life of exciting escapades in this alternative historical fiction of the 19th century. The story has a steampunk charm, accented with amusements and some tongue-in-cheek literary references. The Family Brass believe that a finer world is not just desirable but possible, through the actions of a few dedicated, brave and ingenious people. Based on the classic adventure serials of the 30s and 40s, Battleground Productions has a full collection of stories to listen to, including two full seasons and a series of short films. They’ll be kicking our show off with the first two episodes back-to-back: “Arrivals” and “Unavoidable Delays“.
After our steampunk adventure, we’re taken to the mysterious and suspenseful tale of Mabel. Quoted as “a podcast about ghosts, family secrets, strange houses and missed connections”, the first episode of Mabel certainly plays to the latter. Produced by Becca De La Rosa, Mabel was conceived and started to develop as a story through real-life pen-pal exchanges. Becca states, “the letters started to take a shape of their own, became a kind of story in their own right due to the nature of our communication. This was fascinating for us, as writers and lovers of meta-fiction in all its forms.” Mabel is a witness-led story revealed by Anna, a home health carer. If you’ve ever felt a lingering sense of unease or uncertainty about a situation, this will resonate with you. We want to share more about this and the strange coincidences between reality and fiction in this story, but first things first – listen in to Mabel, Episode 1: The Letters.
