Episode 243 – Quiet Offices

Episode 243 – Quiet Offices

It’s another wibbly-wobbly broadcast week at WCBE – we now have a backup transmitter solution that’s stronger than 25 watts – if you’re in the Columbus area, hopefully the signal is a little stronger thanks to a backup 1000 watt transmitter.  Woo hoo!  Unfortunately we still need to return to full power – and to do that, we need to replace all the components that were fried from the lighting strike that hit our transmitter earlier this month.  If you have a few dollars to spare, please donate to our emergency fundraiser at wcbe.org to make this happen – and thank you for continuing to listen in.

As for this show, we continue our listening selections from last week with more from The Deep Vault, produced by Dead Signals Productions. The production group focuses on “sonic storytelling, with forward-thinking stories that couldn’t be told in any other medium”. The dynamic duo behind it are Marc Sollinger and Daniel Powell, who have extensive experience in both audio storytelling and radio broadcast, with some notable credits to their names.  Sollinger is currently the Associate Producer for the program Innovation Hub at WGBH-Boston and previous worked with the PBS Newshour and Marketplace. Powell has been exercising a life of sound-making as his career and has engineered and designed sound for projects for a collection of radio notables, including BBC and NPR – and currently works as an engineer at American Public Media. Between these two audio powerhouses, it’s no wonder that their signature series – Archive 81 and The Deep Vault – have high production quality, great casts and unique stories to bring to the audio drama spectrum.

Which leads us to tonight’s show – a listen to two more installments of The Deep Vault. Last week, after escaping the dangers and horrors of a near-apocalyptic earth above, Carson, Josie, Jeremy and Alex have found themselves trapped inside of a military bunker that was meant to save humanity from extinction…but something seems to have gone wrong with the bunker’s systems, and they four must instead fend for their lives. We follow what lies for the group next in Episodes 3 and 4 – “The Quiet” and “The Office”. Enjoy!
