It’s our penultimate parade of private-eye potboilers: the third episode in a row devoted entirely to that slick sonic sultan of sleuthing, Black Jack Justice!
Today’s back-to-back adventures are installments 59 (“The Big Time”) and 60 (“The Learner’s Permit”).
It’s said that the life of a private investigator consists of bits of action interrupted by long stretches of slow days watching the sun crawl across the office floor. Jack and Trixie wouldn’t know anything about that; just as they settle in for a big yawner, the door bursts open and opportunity strides in, reeking of after-shave and waving an action-packed expense account. That means it’s time to buckle-up, Buttercup!
Just when you think they deserve a breather from all that action, in “The Learner’s Permit,” our detective duo find their next client in the form of an aspiring writer of hard-boiled murder mysteries. To keep his fiction real, he hires our favorite gumshoes to show him a few tricks of the trade…and runs the risk of trading his own life in the process!
Produced by the fine folks at Decoder Ring Theatre, Black Jack Justice stars Christopher Mott as the titular JJ, and Andrea Lyons as partner Trixie Dixon. Both of them extend their artistic abilities beyond these roles. Mott plies his trade as a fight director, and Lyons is a composer, providing music for The Red Panda. But in the theater of our minds, Mott & Lyons are just aliases for the ever-awesome team of Justice & Dixon!
