Happy Holidays, audio drama listeners! That nip in the air means that Christmas is around the corner – that time of year where radio stations across the country break out their old-school or newly-produced renditions of A Christmas Carol, The Night Before Christmas, or other such tuck. But we at Midnight Audio Theatre like to mix things up a bit, looking for new stories still related to the holiday season. We have two such tales this show, as we welcome back friends and past-featured groups Campfire Radio Theater and The Truth Podcast. We start with a country’s desire for new leadership and the promise of making every morning Christmas morning. Its worth noting that this is also a political satire story which was originally commissioned and aired back in 2015, in case you hear some familiar references. Time to get out there and vote this Christmas with “Santa for President“, written by Mario Correa, produced by Jonathan Mitchell and commissioned by NPR’s All Things Considered. After that, two friends from college are on their way home for the holidays when a shortcut leads them into soem holiday horror in Campfire Radio Theater’s creepy Christmas story, “Dreaming of a Dead Christmas“. Enjoy – if you dare.
And don’t forget, we’ve officially kicked off our annual Scriptwriting Competition, where the winning scripts have their stories produced and broadcast on our show, through WCBE 90.5 FM/HD Columbus, Central Ohio’s NPR station. There’s a page limit, main character limit and a few swear words that we have to avoid for broadcast purposes…but other than that, write what you want! Any and all genres are welcome. You can find more info at our website page – check out the details, and get to writing! Deadline is February 4th. Good luck!
